Santa Monica Place Mall
Spear Point Energy has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with a national
mall owner. The 20 year agreement commits the owner to purchase power from
a 109 kW photovoltaic solar energy installation that Spear Point Energy will
finance and own to be built on the roof of the newly constructed Santa
Monica Place mall in California. Spear Point has contracted with Martifer
Solar USA for the actual construction of the system which will begin in the
late Fall of 2010. The solar energy installation will contribute towards
the mall's LEED certification though the United States Green Building
Council. The system requires no upfront cost from the building owner as
Spear Point Energy pays for 100% of the system. Construction of the
installation is scheduled to take about 3 months and will consist of 506
solar panel modules spread across three of the Mall's roofs. Spear Point
Energy CEO, Sam Houston, commented "We are proud to work with this owner to
be able to provide them clean, locally produced, power at a competitive
rate." After installation is complete, the system will go through a series
of inspections before it is commissioned and begins providing a portion of
the power needs for common area lighting and other common building elements.
Pasadena Windsor Reservoir
Spear Point Energy has signed an agreement with the City of Pasadena,
California for a 664 kW photovoltaic solar energy installation. Through a
Power Purchase Agreement, the City has agreed to buy electricity generated
from the system over the next 20 years. The $3 million installation will be
located on the covered roof of the City's Windsor Reservoir complex and will
be financed and owned by Spear Point Energy. The electricity that the City
purchases from Spear Point will power the reservoir's pumps and other
building equipment located at the site. City officials were attracted to
the project as it aligns with the City of Pasadena's commitment to
incorporate renewable technology into its buildings and operations, and will
save taxpayers money over 20 years as the City will buy electricity from the
installation at discounted prices. The system requires no upfront cost from
the building owner as Spear Point Energy pays for 100% of the system.
According to Erik Klinkner, Assistant General Manager and Chief Deputy of
Pasadena Water and Power, "The Windsor Reservoir rooftop represents a huge
untapped potential for generating clean solar power. We are thrilled that
our partnership with Spear Point Energy will enable us to realize this
potential and advance our renewable energy goals." The RFP was awarded to
Spear Point Energy and Martifer Solar USA. Martifer will be responsible for
construction of the system which is to be completed by April 2011. The
installation will consist of 2,828 solar panel modules that will cover the
majority of the reservoir's roof.
City of Aurora Municipal Building
Spear Point Energy has invested ,along with Martifer Solar USA, in the
financing of a solar installation on 3 buildings owned by the City of
Aurora, Colorado. They include the Aurora Municipal Justice Center, Police
District 2/History Museum building and the North Satellite Main Shop. The
construction of this project was completed by Martifer Solar USA with the
switch turned on September 29, 2010. The North Satellite building has an
initial electricity production estimated to be approximately 138,700kWh
based on a 101.66 kW DC installed system size. It will use a rebate program
offered by Xcel Energy. The Aurora Municipal Justice Center building will
also produce approximately 138,700 kWh on an annual basis when initially
installed based on a 101.66 kW DC system.
